Rehab Description
The McLean Center at Fernside is a premier facility for the treatment of addictions for several reasons. First, the center is affiliated with both Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, both of which are tops in the field of addiction research and innovative in the use of medications and clinical treatments. McLean clients therefore receive state-of-the-art remedies and have access to consultations with Harvard University neurologists, brain neuropsychologists, and brain imaging specialists. The McLean program is small, allowing for only ten residents at a time, and highly individualized.
Clients stay in an elegant Georgian mansion dating from 1835 that was once listed on the Select Registry of Distinguished Inns of America. The inn features period antiques and oriental rugs, and offers beautiful views of a rural valley and the city of Boston, which is 50 miles away. Among the amenities are access to hiking trails, a fitness center and a pool, visitor accommodations, and meals prepared by an award-winning chef. Residents have private rooms or can share a suite as a couple, if both partners qualify for the program.
Residents must be over 18 years old and be able to stay at least a month at McLean Center. The program is seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and includes treatment by an addiction psychiatrist, evidence-based group and individual therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. The mind and body program offers yoga, fitness, mindfulness, art and music therapies, and health education.
Mclean clients are often those who experience persistent relapse, need treatment after detoxification, require medications, and need lifestyle changes to make permanent recoveries. The McLean Center also specializes in people who have accompanying psychiatric/psychological disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder along with substance dependencies.
The family services component is extensive in that the McLean staff communicates with family members and conducts counseling with them onsite or via telephone. Aftercare treatment can sometimes mean continued residential care in a less restrictive environment or simply having professionals continue working with the individual after he or she returns home.
A Recovery Renewal Track is available for those who have completed treatment at McLean Center but need to return to abstinence after relapsing, or who have psychiatric issues that need further monitoring.
